Founded
by Dr. Tao Li in 2005, the mission of the Intelligent Design of Efficient
Architectures Laboratory (IDEAL) is to conduct research on the design
and optimization of computer systems and emerging techniques and applications interactions
with those systems. While the lab bears the word efficiency in its
name, and indeed the lab strives to be pragmatic in all of its work,
this is not meant to be a limitation on the scope of its research.
Rather, it is meant to indicate the focus of IDEAL’s research
on implementing frameworks, motivating designs, and classifying emerging
applications for optimizations in areas such as key emerging workloads, computer
security, performance evaluation, reliability,
and more.
